Sink Kit
This kit was designed by Michael Moore of the Facebook V-Line group for the foldaway sinks fitted to most of the Expedition and V-Line vans, to allow access to the secondary sink and drain that the water tips into when you lift the foldaway sink, meaning that you or your Designated Van Cleaner can then clear up months (or years) of soap/shavings/unmentionables that might have collected there. Ours wasn’t too bad to be fair, but your mileage may vary
The kit takes about 30 minutes to fit, with minimal tools required (listed below). Anyone who knows what DIY stands for has the skills to do it. Once fitted, you just lift a rod on either side, then the sink lifts out. The sink has a hole and grommet on each side, into which fit lugs moulded into the plastic support on each side. These allow the sink to hinge but don’t allow it to be removed. This oversight is fixed by the kit. Also, you may find that the sink when folded isn’t vertical, or perhaps rubs at the back. On ours, someone (dealer maybe) tried to fix the rubbing by hacking off the part of the rear of the sink, but this kit allows the side supports to be aligned properly to fix these issues; a much much neater solution!
The kit comprises replacement supports (left and right), locking pins (remove to remove the sink; replace after), stainless steel screws (the A-T ones aren’t stainless and will rust if they get wet), new screw caps, a rod for a hinge (to replace the old lugs), an alignment tool and printed instructions.
You will also need a saw with a thin blade to cut one or both of the lugs that create the old hinge (one was enough for me, then the sink came out easily), a Phillips screwdriver, something to jam between sink and support to make space for the saw (I used a trim removal tool but lots of things will do), a sharp knife to cut through the existing sealant (if present), and (maybe) a tape measure. The full procedure is to measure where the old hinge is vertically and horizontally and align the new one to match, but all I did was align the new supports centrally with the original screw holes, try it out and then adjust to stop the rubbing. After that, screw in fully and seal the edges (and seal anything that Auto Trail missed or where the old sealant has pulled away).
